Video Production
Both my coursework and extracurricular activities have presented opportunities to practice the video production process from shooting to editing.

Video Storytelling
Video Storytelling (COMM 215) presented us with six video projects to practice editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, working the camera and VJ kits, creating shot lists, scriptwriting, and more.
Project 5: Fiction Final
I chose to create a fiction piece for my final, featuring an ex-dancer trying to find her passion for dance again. We were given fairly free reign with a few guidelines.
This is my favorite project by far. It allowed me to test out more of those storytelling elements, as well as ensuring shot variety. To change anything, I’d say just picking a location that was slightly brighter– although I think the darker appearance fits the narrative.
Project 4: Freeform
The Free Form gave us the most creative freedom of all the projects. Our task was to create pretty much anything as long as it stuck to the required timeframe.
The project allowed me to create a piece that had more of a narrative and fiction feel. If I would change anything, I would try to get more shots to create variety at each location.
Project 2: PSA
For the PSA project, we were to create a 30 second video featuring a message for a real life organization. The project also called for the use of title graphics.
The PSA got me thinking about storytelling in conjunction with the technical skills we covered. My favorite part was getting to take on something more creative.
Project 3a: Interview Edit
The third project combined both interview and voice over work under b-roll footage. Myself and classmate, Abigail Perenovich, interviewed and shot footage of our TV show producer, Kyle Archer. The piece was edited individually.
Project 3 was the first time utilizing audio, so if I were to go back I would focus more on making sure that the levels were correct. It definitely taught me the importance of capturing more b-roll than you think you need to ensure it can match up with the story, which we did.
Project 3b: VO Edit
The second half of project three required we write and record our own voice over and to arrange the b-roll accordingly. Again, shot with my classmate and edited individually.
I found that I really enjoyed writing the voice over and I think that is the strongest part of the piece. If I had to redo it, I would be sure to capture b-roll that aligns closer with the story I was telling.
Project 1: Composition
Our first project tasked us with practicing shot composition with three different subjects. We were to capture static shots: an establishing shot, long shot, medium shot, close-up, extreme close-up. The video was captured with my classmate, Abigail Perenovich, but edited individually.
Through the project I was able to reinforce the basics of shot composition, white balancing, and focus. Had I have to do it again, I would choose more interesting subjects.
